We are blessed to live in a community that values science. We need leaders in science who go above and beyond their call of duty to serve the greater community. Bryan Bates is such a leader as he brings his knowledge and skills to serve Coconino County as District 4 Supervisor.

Bryan is an educator. He shares his understanding of the natural world in many ways. In the early days of Greater Flagstaff Forests Partnership efforts in the late 1990’s, Bryan recognized the opportunity to extend learning beyond the walls of his Coconino Community College Biology classes. He reached out to Coconino National Forest staff for suggestions and assistance. I was among Forest Service specialists who teamed up with Bryan to provide place-based forest-focused educational experiences for his students.

My understanding of the sky and stars is enhanced thanks to Bryan’s programs about how indigenous people comprehended the patterns of the heavens.

Bryan is a collaborator. We served on the Festival of Science Board for many years. He listens and encourages dialogue.

Bryan knows the landscapes, the skies and the people of northern Arizona. I am honored to join other community leaders in endorsing Bryan Bates for Coconino County Supervisor.  I encourage District 4 residents to vote for Bryan with your mail-in ballot in the August 4 Primary Election and the November 3 General Election.
