Vern Pfannenstiel

I am writing this letter to endorse Bryan Bates for Coconino County Supervisor (District 4).  I have known Bryan for nearly twenty years, both professionally and personally.  I first became acquainted with Bryan while I was working as an environmental scientist and reclamation manager for Peabody Energy at the Kayenta Mine on Black Mesa.  He was teaching Environmental Studies at Coconino Community College in Flagstaff and contacted me to arrange a tour at the mine in order for the students to gain knowledge and a broad perspective regarding energy production and environmental and reclamation issues.  After that first contact we continued this effort over the years at both the mine and in Bryan’s classroom broadening the information to support the environmental studies curriculum, demonstrate the feasibility of environmental responsibility and continued mining and respect for Native American cultural and traditional values.

I have been very impressed with Bryan’s broad grasp of issues and science and his efforts to encourage students to be factual, informed and to consider all sides of any issue to gain the best perspective.  I firmly believe that this approach and his background in science, education and his long time residency in the County make him the best candidate for County Supervisor in District 4.  He will thoroughly and thoughtfully inform himself on the issues and will be objective in his analysis and decision making in order to arrive at the best outcomes for the County.  This will benefit all County residents regardless of party affiliation. Please learn more about Bryan at and consider supporting him for Coconino County Supervisor in District 4.  It will be obvious that he is the best candidate to fill this position.

Sincerely, Vern Pfannenstiel
